Measure the results of individual X posts

Give each link a campaign name so you can connect a post to recorded visits, goals and attributed payments.

The question to answer

A referral from X may identify the platform without identifying the original post. Tagging links you control adds that missing campaign context. Analytics by 5H3LL records the tags that reach your site; it does not scan X, retrieve untagged posts or claim to reconstruct every conversation about your product.

Before you start

A tracked destination page with consent configured.

The public link builder or your website’s link-building settings.

Payment attribution if you want to compare paid outcomes.

1. Choose the destination

Use the exact page you want readers to visit, such as your feature explanation or pricing page. Avoid redirects that discard the query string. Keep the destination relevant to what the post promises.

2. Build a distinct tagged link

Open the link builder, select X / Twitter and use a campaign name such as autumn-launch-thread. It sets utm_source=x and utm_medium=social. Give your bio, main thread and follow-up posts different names.

3. Test the final link

Open the copied URL and confirm the destination still contains the tags after any redirects. With analytics consent granted, check the dashboard for the visit. Do not repeatedly click a live campaign to inflate its counts.

4. Publish the tagged URL

Use that URL in the intended post. Keep a simple record mapping campaign names to post URLs, dates and the offer you used. This record is yours; the analytics app does not fetch the post automatically.

5. Review Campaign with outcomes

Open Campaign for the correct dates and compare visitors and credited revenue. Filter a campaign to inspect goals and journeys. Allow for people who return before buying, and treat missing attribution as unknown rather than zero business value.

Worked example

A shared campaign name combines those placements into one row. Distinct names let you compare them. The tagged URL is an example for your own domain; replace example.com before sharing it.

Check your setup

The published link retains all three UTM parameters.

A consented test visit appears under the intended campaign.

Payment attribution is configured before interpreting revenue.

How to interpret the result

Untagged X posts usually cannot be resolved to individual posts from referrer data alone.

Copied tagged links may be shared elsewhere and keep the original campaign name.

Analytics reports do not measure impressions, likes or every click reported by X.

Your next action

Create one link for your next post and record a review date. Compare it with a second post using the same observation window.
